The Dill system allows you set your own thresholds for pressure, but temperature is pre-set at 176*. Regarding temperature, an internal sensor will give you a much more accurate temp reading than an external sensor will.
The Dill system DOES transmit when the tires are stationary, just less often to conserve battery life, so you can get a pressure reading on all 4 tires before driving. See the owner's manual here. I do the same as you, plug in the monitor to get tire pressure while I am packing up.
Overall I think the internal sensors are less prone to damage, more accurate, and the batteries last 5-7 years according to the manual. The ONLY thing the Dill doesn't have is a programmable temperature threshold.
