The Dill system allows you set your own thresholds for pressure, but temperature is pre-set at 176*. Regarding temperature, an internal sensor will give you a much more accurate temp reading than an external sensor will.
The Dill system DOES transmit when the tires are stationary, just less often to conserve battery life, so you can get a pressure reading on all 4 tires before driving. See the owner's manual here. I do the same as you, plug in the monitor to get tire pressure while I am packing up.
Overall I think the internal sensors are less prone to damage, more accurate, and the batteries last 5-7 years according to the manual. The ONLY thing the Dill doesn't have is a programmable temperature threshold.
ok good - when i read the manual i didn't see instruction for user programable settings, nor did i see that the sensors transmitted until they were rolling (specifically it states at least 20 mph).
i dont disagree w/ the internal vs external damage vulnerability - how ever i haven't had a problem w/ the external sensors either by curbing or other potential sources. theres a lot of FUD around these sensors leaking or causing flats and everyone that complains about it is a non user. Ive yet to hear anyone have an issue w/ the screw on sensors....all of the different types have their user preferred advantages (its nice to be able to have a choice too).
i agree - when using in the wheel sensors long battery life is important. I don't know what DILL's exchange policy or cost is when the batteries need replacement (hopefully they'll send new ones and allow you to exchange the old ones after the you replace w/ new...breaking the tire down twice or having to wait would be a pain).
At the end of the day, regardless of the brand - i think we all agree the value & peace of mind in these systems is HUGE & certainly worth the money.
