I believe wind turbines have their place. I used a 400 watt AirX while parked (for the most part) on a friends farm in Eastern Colorado. Average wind speed is around 12 mph in that area, and the turbine did keep everything charged up when parked for extended periods of time with weekend use only. Used it that way for about 3 years without any issues. 550 lbs house batteries and 4 group 31 starting batteries. Now I have 640 watts of solar, but only keep 160 of it out in storage mode. If a longer term storm system comes across it's nice to have the option of putting up the turbine for a little more power. We came back from AZ mid February and didn't winterize, so we're running the furnace at a low temp as well as a small Whynter fridge/freezer on 12 volts while in storage mode. We also heat up the 5th wheel fairly often while working on some improvements to the rig. Solar and wind both work if you have reasonable expectations for the environment you're planning to use it in. In our case, I don't expect the sun to shine during a storm, but do believe the wind will be blowing fairly well most of the time. If I had to have one or the other, it would be solar. Good luck.
