As for the question of solar or no I would recommend it for almost anyone who is thinking about going to a place without hookups. If you decide last minute to go camping you know that the batt will be charged. Or if you or your kids leave a light on in the bath it won't mean a half day run on the generator it will just be charged. It's one less thing to worry about while camping or getting ready to go. The battery will just be charged.
With my 136 watt unisolar my batteries are usually charged by noon using the lights, pump and occasionally the furnace in the morning, we all like it chilly while we're sleeping.
One thing, my Morningstar MPPT controller makes and annoying high pitch tone in the morning so I'm going to move it into the cabinet it's mounted on the outside of. I have about $400 into the system.
