Dad's solution to slammed doors was to administer an immediate butt-kicking. That worked reasonably well.
Mom's solution was more diabolical. If I drew her attention by doing anything overtly obnoxious (like door slamming, unnecessary screeching, et cetera), she would assign me an immediate chore... usually the last thing I felt like doing at that moment. I learned very quickly to be quiet and fly under the radar, lest I end up working when I wanted to be playing.
I've been known to use both of those approaches but the reality is they're still just kids and will do what kids do so I'll help them out as much as possible. Like I said.....I've also been known to do it a few times and wake the baby up. :D My son, who's 11, is actually pretty good about closing it using the handle so you barely even know he closed it. My 8 year old daughter on the other hand sounds like a freight train going in and out of the door. Plus we usually have other kids close and they go in and out of the camper also. Just trying to find a solution to a common problem we have. That link I posted to the closer really doesn't solve the problem after I thought about it....it closes the door but doesn't keep someone from being able to slam it shut.
Perhaps a sign on the door, posted at kid eye-level that says, "Please close the door softly! Thank you very much."?
You could ask one of the children to design it, which will certainly make them feel like they are involved in the effort.
