solutions for slamming door??

We have 3 kids and no matter how much I've yelled at or grounded them we still end up with the camper door being slammed shut on occasion. I was thinking about it this weekend as I was laying in bed awake early one morning after the door slamming woke me up. I was in a camper 2 years ago that had an assist cylinder of some type on the door that I believe is meant more to keep the wind from ripping it out of your hand but I think would solve my problem. Anyone know what they're called and if you can retro fit one to a door? It might save me and the kids some headaches. I would never say it out loud in front of the kids but I've been guilty of shutting the door too hard more than once and waking the baby up. :D

Orion, after a week at the beach with my 2 kids and 2 extras, I was wondering the same thing!! It was HOT and the skeeters were awful, so we were usually reminding them to close the door, but when they did close it.....SHEW!

You try this out and if it works, let me know. I would definitely be interested. I like to be a late sleeper on occasion and it wasn't happening last week.

you must've stayed in VA haha.....that's where we were last week and the skeeters almost carried us off. That's going to be the next problem I work on solving......or scheduling around. There has to be a way to camp in VA without being eaten alive. It didn't matter if the breeze was blowing or how much spray you had on they would still tear you up. Those things are a special breed of mosquito out there. :D
  • there used to be a screen door jobby that was basically a rubber ball hanging on a stiff piece of wire mounted to the outer edge of the door. when you swung the door closed, the ball would swing out and keep the screen door from banging.

  • "Gib" closer, never knew they made such a thing. Thanks for posting that and that may wok perfectly for your RV. Keep us posted.

  • thanks for the link.....I like this one because it would mount on the outside but not sure how well it would work on an rv door. Guess I could give it a try and then repair the screw holes if it didn't work out.
