I went rogue and because of all the issues most find with the normal wireless monitors I chose to adapt a baby monitor system to use. These systems while a little more expensive are IMO technologically superior for wireless operation since they are meant to be used with many obstructions and longer monitoring distances. I have the one by "Summer Infant" and it has zoom, battery camera operation option, multiple camera scan functions, etc. The biggest draw back is there is no "reverse view" option. I use two in the trailer, one in the back window inside attached with one of the large suction cups and one in the main area of the trailer to monitor the goings on inside while towing.
I have been very happy with the system I have and it doubles/triples for things like hitch hookup using the battery camera option with the camera sitting on the back bumper of the Van. Also, at home I have one mounted in my front window for front door and front yard surveillance. With the panning function of the cameras this system does all I need. I have even used it with the camera bungeed to the end of a telescoping pole to check for leaf obstructions in my second story gutters w/o dragging out the ladder and physically going up to check things out.
Just another potential option for those brave enough to thing outside the box so to speak.
