Sound Guy, you may have missed the joke face at the end of my message -- indicating that I am kidding. White noise is no solution for sound pollution, any more than air freshener is a solution for smog.
As quiet as my Honda is, I still hate the sound of a motor while I am camping, whether it is mine or my neighbors. I recognize that there are times that folks (including me) absolutely have to have juice but am searching for new ways to minimize the impact. (My solar panel is great, but once in a while, there is a string of several cloudy days . . . )
One trick that we sometimes use is to add a heavy duty extension cord to the trailer's power cord, so as to move the generator as far away from ourselves and our neighbors as we can. We can get it around 50 feet away.
True story -- once, we were in a campground and the neighbors walked by. They were tent camping. One of them asked, "Do you have a generator?" I said yes. They said, "Do you have to run it often?"
I said "Almost never." He asked me, "How loud is it?" I said, "Not too bad. It's running right now." They could not believe it until I showed them it was behind a big boulder, 50 feet behind the trailer.
That is still not good enough for me.
