This cutting board? Or how 'bout this one??
Been having a bit of a disagreement for some time now.
When we got our 2014 TT new, DW bought a plastic cutting board that sits on top of the stove. It's 17" x 19 1/2" and doesn't fully cover the stove top and "stuff" tends to fall into it sometimes. There's a big gap at the side and rear and the surface has warped a bit. DW likes the gap because it's a good spot to park her glasses, a book and her keys. She is quite attached to her silly cheap plastic cutting board. :(
At around the same time, I ordered a maple butcher block blank online from countrymouldings.com. It's 1" thick and came as 25" x 25". It cost about $100 3 years ago but now they are listed at $176! It's been stored in my den the whole time and I've been pondering what to do with it so a few weeks ago, I finally finished it. I trimmed it down to about 24" x24" and put some maple runners underneath that raised it 1-1/4" above the counter top to clear the grate. Wiped mineral oil on it. I really like the warm wood look and the larger cutting surface. It's rather heavy and does not bounce or move around. No room for keys and other junk beside it. :)
We almost never use the stove, maybe only twice, so the cutting board doesn't have to come off all the time .
Which one wins out? Or should I say who wins?
