I have suffered horribly for many years from a condition called common sense, seems to be getting rarer these days. An extreme condition like mine comes from doing lots of really dumb things and surviving.
Common sense dictates that an open flame near gasoline or gas fumes may not be the smartest thing to do. Despite what self appointed experts and much more knowledgeable people tell me.
Some have to hear about it, some have to read about it, some have to pee on the electric fence!

You're right, common sense can be a real guide in this case also. The victim claims that the pump was spraying fuel out of control, and he managed to soak the fridge vent before he wrestled it back under his command. The fire marshal finds his whole story highly dubious. Since a typical towed RV has a fridge vent dozens of feet from where you are fueling, and a typical motorized unit has the fuel fill on the opposite side of all vented propane appliances, I'm taking you're advice and going with common sense, that being, for a typical RV, it is simply impossible to start a fire by leaving the fridge running while refueling.
While were are on the topic, I continue to make the request I have made for well over a decade. That being, can anybody produce a document, from a fire investigation professional, that documents a fire caused by a fridge operating during the refueling process? If it is an issue, with possibly ten million, or more, rigs on the road, there would be some shred of evidence..................
