Indeed. I will probably replace clear my domes with milky ones. LED boards are less harsh than previously used incandescent bulbs, - wider spot, but still clear domes result in too much shade/contrast.
"Better LED"- may I suggest correction - brighter LED. 18W old bulb is equivalent to 300 Lumen in brightness, so if this isn't enough - get more Lumens. Just make sure that color is 2700-3000K (they call it Warm White) - or if you want it blue-r, go for higher K. Don't get confused with Bright White, Cool White etc - they don't refer to brightness or cool looks :), only to K (color).
As noted, decent LED boards with honest Lumen rating and honest K start from ~ $3, could be cheaper in quantity of 10, but hardly below $2.
