The downside being you then have a hose running along the ground from the camper to where your grill, etc, is located ... and in the case of a grill which smokes like crazy when cooking that means a hose long enough to get the grill away from the camper, which in turn also means a long hose that's all too easy to trip over. :M Instead, I park my Q on the campsite table and feed it with an easy to carry 5 lb tank sitting next to the grill - no hose to trip over. As for "storing" an extra tank I always take along a 5 pounder and a couple of propane canisters as spares, along with a couple of torch fuel canisters, in these containment boxes which travel in the back of the truck and prevent the containers from rolling around. It's all too easy. :B
