What could make LED bulbs burn out?

We have a 2015 Keystone 5th wheel. We purchased 18 LED bulbs to replace the typical bulbs in the unit from the factory. Within a 3-4 month period, 14 of the LED bulbs have flickered and burnt out. :(

We have checked the 12volt battery and it is full of water, connects are good, and we do not have any other 12volt problems.

What could make these do this? Are we doing something wrong on the installation? or what? :?

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  • Very poor quality control on the LED proper or the circuit components. As with any new product, it's the wild west out there and some are great and some pi*s poor. No way to really tell either as sellers are buying from many different manufacturers and change suppliers faster than you change sox.
  • Any of the Green Long life should serve you well - if you're willing to pony up the price.

Another solution is to buy a DC-DC converter and put that after your batteries and before your coach's 12v feed. I keep my rig at 12.5, always. About $100, made by Victron.

Whichever bulb you decide on, be sure to check its voltage tolerance, which is part of its spec. If it's not listed, don't buy it. And stay away from the $2 ones!
  • Yes, we bought cheaper bulbs - not cheap, but cheaper than others we have seen. They are Gold Star brand and have a 1 year warranty...which is good but we are getting tired of them burning out.

Is there a brand that holds up and lasts?
  • High voltage, like when your converter is charging.

Is it safe to assume you bought cheap bulbs?
