What is this?

The cable from the positive post (on the battery) connects to a relay? on the inside of the trailer frame.
Due to some electrical issues, I'm going over all the connections in the trailer. When I tried to remove the cable from the relay? the relay? actually pretty much fell apart.
Would anyone out there know what type of "relay?" this is? I'm not certain this is in fact a relay
This is a Thor Cougar travel trailer.

  • Look on the side of the case for the amp rating and replace with the same.
  • By golly, Biscuit posted a picture of what the "thing' looks like.
Thank you sir. Tomorrow, I'll get one and install it.
    Thanks again.

If it's more cylindrical shape, with two big terminals on opposite sides plus a couple thin wires coming out, it's the main disconnect solenoid switch--the thing that actually turns on and off when you press the battery disconnect switch on or off. If you don't have a battery disconnect switch, then you presumably don't have one of these latching relays either.

The auto-resetting circuit breakers like Old-Biscuit posted are quite common, and come in a variety of different ratings (up to 50A). There are also, rather less commonly, manual reset ones that look quite similar but have a little reset tab that sticks out one end when they trip.
  • Does it look like this......

It is a 12V DC Auto Resetting Circuit Breaker.....typically 30A

Used on main battery cable to DC Dist Panel
