What's a good type of catch to use for a drawer

We have a couple of drawers under our bed that can slide out will traveling and rub on other cabinets when the bedroom slide is pulled in. The drawer has the type of ball bearing slides that have a catch built in, but it's weak and drawers continue to slide out. I'm thinking maybe some sort of a magnetic catch would be good, but am open to suggestions. Don't want to use a child lock on these drawers.

I removed the drawer slide and, using a hacksaw, cut out a 3/4" notch for the slide wheel to drop into, in the closed position. That's how many of the RV drawers are; you just have to lift the drawer up a slight bit to get it to open. Easy fix, works perfectly!

Good idea, I'll check to see if that will work.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to stop by Lowes this morning and see what they carry. I have a few child latches but don't want to use them in this location as they would be in the way of clothes, etc.

X2. They are made by Southco, C3 grabber latch. Work great.
  • I have two drawers that also used to open when traveling. I installed plastic (baby proof) latches that mount on the inside drawer face. They allow the drawer to open about 2" then you have to push down on the latch for the drawers to open.

  • Use two 3/8" round x 1/4" neodymium magnets, one on the drawer back and the other in the cabinet face. If you're very fussy, you can drill deeper than 1/4", fill with filler or veneer, stain, and sand. If the drawers are wider than 24", use magnets on both sides.
