Just some guesses for you:
Are you removing a vent shroud while standing on the rooftop? I would expect the solar wiring to be accessible while standing on the roof since that is where the solar panels would go. So I would see if the directions make sense while standing on the roof and looking at the various vent covers up there.
If there are multiple vents on the roof, try one that is closest to the battery compartment first.
And don't forget to check under the refrigerator roof vent cover.
They could be referring to a vent for the "attic space" on your roof.
