Bad tail light wiring

Hi All - I have a problem with the left tail light on my new to me 2002 Jayco Qwest.  The tail light itself works, but the turn signal, brake, and flasher do not.  Everything works correctly on the right side.  I assumed the problem was a bad bulb, but it turns out I’m only getting about 2 volts to the wire that powers the turn break and flashers.  I’ve reached in and pulled out that wire as far as I can and from what I can see there are no bad connectors there.  Anyone have any thoughts as to how I can get a new wire routed to that light.  I don’t see any access inside or from the bottom.  Just FYI , the wire scheme is as follows:

Right light (works)
Tail light - Green
Turn, brake, Flash - Brown

Left light (only tail light works)
Tail light - Green
Turn, brake, Flash - Red (only 2 volts).

Thanks, Any help appreciated.

  • Yes, and problem solved.  It was an issue with the pigtail plug which i ended up replacing.  Thanks!

  • Cool thanks I'm saving that picture. It's interesting that the industry changes the wire colors between a cargo trailer and a travel trailer. At least they warn you to not go by the colors.

  • FWIW This RV color chart that came with my new plug was absolutely spot on for my 2002 Jayco.

  • Awesome glad you got it solved. And thank you for updating us all with the results.

  • Have you verified the wiring at the tongue? If your Jayco is anything like my 2005 Jayco the trailer umbilical terminates in a unsealed residential J box at the base of the tongue. I would open that box and verify that the correct wires are getting the correct voltages. I would personally ignore the wire colors in the diagrams below and focus on the correct voltages on the correct pins at the correct times. Start at the truck and work your way back.
