Trying to get to know my way around my newish Cougar 28SGS, I'm looking for the converter. Keystone doesn't make this easy (unless I missed some kind of wiring-map document somewhere). Since the converter charges the battery, I assumed it would be near the battery compartment, but I don't see it there or under any nearby covers in the basement. Not obvious around the fuse/breaker box either -- or is it BEHIND that?Before I start disassembling things, if anyone's already honed in on it, please pass along a pointer...

Do you have a MAIN AC Panel that also has DC Fuse Panel?If so...you have found the converter....it is behind, below, part of that assembly

Behind something that looks similar to this. Mine is under the frig.

some are on the side of the bed.

Mine is behind the basement wall

My guess in it's incorporated in your electrical panel. It's more then likely on the DC side, or behind it.

About the only time those fuses blow are when someone hooks up a battery backwards. In general, a converter requires about as much maintenance as a brick. I wouldn't be concerned about somewhat difficult access to it.

You could maybe create an access panel in the side of the adjacent cupboard if you really wanted. Building supply/home improvement stores have various access panels that could be mounted in the "wall" between the compartments, or you could use a separate panel screwed into the wood or something.

Well yes this is true but I think the counter top or a door would have been better. I have to take out 8 screws to gain access and we all know that after taking screws out multiple times out of the wood on these things what happens? I learned where it was because my convertor had two blown fuses when I got the trailer and we went through it to figure out why it wasn't charging the battery up. Fuses are mounted in the side of the convertor. Need a flashlight to replace them.

Wow, lots of helpful responses, this forum is great... I had wondered about it possibly being behind the Breaker/Fuse panel (mounted with a plastic door, near the floor inside the cabinet door just across from the house door on the sink cabinet, opposite side of the cabinet from the sink cabinet door). Haven't pulled it yet to see, but several posters have convinced me that's the place. (BTW, the big pic on "page 1" of this discussion is my layout)

LOL. Took me awhile to find mine. To gain access you have to remove the 110v circuit breaker/12v fuse panel. It is mounted behind. I can't believe they didn't install an access panel to get to it.

My converter is located in a cabinet under the oven in the front kitchen. The breaker box is located right where the elect cord enters in the rear bedroom (about 25 feet away). The 12v fuse box is located in a cabinet above the corner TV just inside the front door. I think they put them wherever they can find the room! Works fine though for the past 13 years. :)

does your newish cougar come with a bunch of brochures in one of your drawers showing all of the appliances you have installed in the Cougar trailer...

Gives us the name and part number for the converter/charger and we can look see on GOOGLE what it looks like...

The converter is not always mounted on or with the load center (though that is very common). Mine was across the hall in its own compartment under the pantry area. A deck mount converter can be put just about anywhere.

Look for a panel like others have posted with your breakers and fuses inside. The converter is normally inside (behind). Find this panel and you have found the converter.

My big guess is it is beneath the stove top or under the sink cabinet on the floor. Both of these doors near the floor may have the CONVERTER UNIT behind them... Something looks like to be hind the vented door near the floor under the sink...

It will be a unit where the circuit breakers and ATC fuses are all located. The converter unit is usually on the bottom compartment...
