It should be noted that the ADXL345 chip has more functionality than just a spirit level. The data sheet explains the functionality and resolution aspects. It is a fairly sophisticated device. A user could enable it as a speedometer, also, for example.
GordonThree is offering up a design that chops a lot of price off a standalone electronic level. I prospected enabling something like this project awhile back and the price of a stand-alone electronic level was in the hundreds, more sophisticated industrial units, in the thousands.
