16" Load Range G Tires
Hello all. We have reached a deal on a 2008 Corsair Excella Platinum 34.5 CKTS fifth wheel subject to viewing in person which I am flying out to do next week. Unless some major problem is detected upon me seeing the unit it will be a done deal and we will be travelling to Alberta in the Spring to pick it up.
This unit has 7,000 lb axles (with disc brakes by the way!) and these units came from the factory with Goodyear G614 235 85R16 tires. I will be looking closely at these tires when I look the unit over, but I am thinking they are probably original and due to be replaced due to age.
So the obvious answer to me was to replace them with another set of Goodyear G614's so I started shopping around online and was quite shocked at the cost of them. I like the fact that they are made in the US but are they really worth that much money? I have also read good things about the Sailun S637 tire. I understand that they are relatively new on the market and I don't like the fact that they are made in China but it appears that there is considerable cost savings by going with them. We still work full time so in the 5-6 years I would run these tires we would be lucky to have 15-20,000 miles on them.
So are the G614's worth the cost? Anyone here running Sailuns with good success? I am in the Lower Mainland of BC but I would also appreciate any tips on who has good pricing in the Pacific Northwest. I had Discount Tire in Burlington, WA install a set of BF Goodrich Commercial TA's on my current fiver a couple of years ago and they had excellent service and prices and I would definitely use them again.
Any good insight would be appreciated. Also, I do not want ST tires, LT only so please avoid that debate. Thanks!
