1st 5th wheel

We just picked up our 1st 5th wheel a Jayco Eagle Premier 351 RLTS . We previously owned 2 Jayco tt's each time moving up.

Shake down cruise is this coming weekend for 5 days.

congrats, I'm sure your Duramax/Alison combination will do great, but your 3/4 ton towing capacity might be pushed to it's limits
Not so much the towing capacity, but I'm pretty sure payload (or even GAWR) will be an issue.

With my actual weights for camping in regards to payload we are right at max, slightly below GAWR, and about 1500 below towing capability.

Once its time to purchase a new truck it will be a 3500.
Sooner the better as I figure you are 1400# to 1600# over GVWR. Your brakes will be tested as they are stopping MORE than they are certified for!
Loaded halfway to GVWR you will have 2800# of pin weight, plus occupants, hitch, fuel and other stuff. If you are at GAWR you have added approx 3400# to the truck on the rear axle alone.
SOME of the extra weight will be on the front, hence my swag of 1500# (+/- 100#).
If your truck is 4WD your "official" payload may be under 2000#.
    You really need more truck.

    OP: Post your actual weights

  • With the 5er you will now have no sway when trucks pass, and a more pleasant towing experience.

  • Congrats! Enjoy your shakedown trip. Sounds like a fun time.
