2 year old 15k dometic A/C just bit the dust

Well my main A/C just quit cooling. The unit is out of warranty. The compressor still comes on but the unit does not blow cold (not hot but just barely cool) I see amazon has these units new for about $560.00 but they don't have good reviews. It's always something with these rvs. My norcold 1210 cooling unit went out this past year. Does anyone have a better replacement suggestion for the A/C?
  • Seems like if the compressor is running then it can't be too bad. I would at least call a mobile guy. Could save a lot a cash.
  • Not sure this will help you at all OP, but our front AC unit on our brand new 5th wheel crapped out on us on our 2nd trip with it. So it's not unheard of for all of you who think it's just a simple fix, or it might be frozen, or whatever. They had to replace the whole unit. Under warranty but took about a bazillion days to get the approval from Keystone etc. to get it done.
  • I would have an AC tech look at it before you spend big bucks.
    Might be something simple.
Not the dealer but a real mobile tech.
  • the coleman will not be a direct fit will need a new thermastat and wir. And the coleman fan motors do not hold up but hey you have your mind made up
  • Thanks for the advise on the coleman. My unit was not froze up. The cost to get a charge done (requires welding a bung on and then the refrigerant) is half of what a new unit is. Can the colman unit replace the dometic without having to buy special wiring connectors or other things? I want to be able to drop in and go.
  • AC units can freeze up - sometimes because the freeze sensor is displaced +/or the operator has been running the AC on low fan. If this is the problem - turn off the AC for 10 minute and restart - if the unit is functioning OK then you might looks for a freeze sensor that has fallen off the coils.

Not sure what "bad reviews" your talking about - what model air conditioner do you have.
  • Dometic seems to be going down the RV supplier / vendor road laid out by LCI fast. Posts about Dometic AC units crapping the bed prematurely are easy to find in every RV related forum, and have been for a couple of years.

I have always had good luck with Coleman Mach. The 15K Coleman unit on our 2017 Rockwood has made it two years and blows really cold, its also fairly quiet. We're not running it here in PA like it would be running in TX however.
  • go uptop and reseal the foam pieces back together there was a run of them that had next to no sealantbetween the foam pieces
