I don't think you have a shear pin problem since you were able to get the slide in using the motor with some assistance. It sounds like the clutch is going bad in it or your slide is binding causing the clutch to activate.
My slide actuator was made by Venture Manufacturing Co. They have a website at http://www.venturemfgco.com/. My motor went bad so I decided to replace it myself. I also sheared an internal shear pin in the gear box when I tried to force the manual crank the wrong way (Make sure you know which way to crank for in and out before doing it!). The actuator is easy to remove. There are two bolts at the motor end bolting it to the frame of the trailer and a couple of large nuts at the actuator end. The 12 volt wires to it need to be removed also. My motor was separate from the gearbox and easy to remove. I contacted Venture and they were very helpful. They sent me a new motor for $50. The shear pin was available at a local hardware store. They can sell you any and all the gears in the gearbox too. The people at Venture were very helpful in solving my problems and getting me parts fast and at a reasonable price.
Good luck with your repairs. It isn't a hard thing to work on.
