This 03 F550 would be much better for that DRV and will handle the weight easily. It will have better gears, better brakes, 4 rear tires, better springs, and more power. As long as the price is right and the engine is in good shape I would certainly consider it.
I would not, or if you do consider having to put some $$$ into to "bullet Proof" it. If you are looking in mid 2000's you are better off sticking with GM and RAM for a diesel. The 6.0 especially early 6.0's are not know for reliability.
