2012 Raptor with Towmasters = BOOOM!!!

When I bought my 2012 Raptor 365 I had heard/read all about the Towmaster 235/80r16 tires being CHINA BOMBS! But since I have many miles of experience pulling trailers for my other toys.I figured that as long as monitored my psi/temp via a TPMS, kept'm rotated they'd be good for few yrs/5-10,000 miles before I'd actually replace them.

BOY was I WRONG!!! With less than 5,000 miles on my Raptor. On Sunday about 4 hours into a 5 hour ride home from Darlington/Nascar. My right front Towmaster goes ((KA-BOOOOOM)) at about 65-67mph, TSPS @ 78-80psi.:M I like WTH!! Lucky enuff was only 1/8 mile from a weigh station so I was able to change it and be back on the road in 20 mins. Also lucky in that it caused no damage when it went KABOOM.

My longtime local tire guy highly recommended Maxxis m8008's for my Raptor and I read good reviews. So Today I replaced my TOWMASTER/CHINA BOMBS with some MAXXIS M8008 235/60R16's.

My point is this..all the post about Towmaster tires being CHINA BOMBS is TRUE :B Hope this post is helpful to others who might be on the fence about replacing them. Do it before they go KABOOM!!

  • Great pics! Am I reading the load range right on the Towmaster 235/80r16 tires- I see it as "D"?

Are the replacement Maxxis M8008 235/60R16's a slightly different size, and what load range are they?

But those of us that know better feel your pain (X6? - ouch!)
All my tire failures happened at low speeds, full pressure and well under the tires capacity - especially the one that slipped a belt while it was laying under the canopy of my truck.
They do make a great bang though don't they. If your like me you'll be super sensitive to it now. But don't worry, the Maxxiss will treat you well.

  • Can't agree with you more! I have 6 M8008's in the back of my Raptor I will be mounting up this weekend.
