2013 F150 4X4 EcoBoost w/3.5L & 145" wheelbase

I am buying my first 5th wheel. I have had a travel trailer before but this is new for me. I am getting a bit confused, sales people can do that, and am reading that most folks in my type of truck are running around with a 25-26 footer. I am looking at a 29' 2003 Monaco Lakota. I am hearing PIN WEIGHT is the most important. From my book it looks like I cant go over 11K, and I am hearing to stay at about 8K dry weight to make sure I am not over limit.
Am considering having the hitch done prior to picking up the unit so that the sales place doesn't have to do it and I was thinking it might be cheaper.

HELP?!

Thanks everyone

  • Personally I think your making a big mistake. The truck, which is far more capable than older 1/2 tons is still a light duty truck. And as such has smaller brakes, lighter frame, lighter tires and wheels. 20% of an 11,000 gross weight trailer could load over 2000 pounds directly over the rear axle. I would have serious reservarions putting that much potiential load in the back of your truck.
