2014 Ram 2500 to tall for 5th wheel

My 2014 Ram 2500 seems to be to tall to be able to tow my 5th level or even close to level. Yes the axles are already flipped and no there is no lift on my truck. Its stock.

5th: 2004 Keystone Sprinter.

If I raise the pin box then I will only have around 1" of clearance.

I have read the following options and hope someone has some advice.

Option:
- Taller Springs
- New subframe
- Taller Shackles
- Taller Tires

I believe I need to raise the 5th a min of 4". I don't like to camp in paved campgrounds and like to get off the beaten path. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

  • You could also talk to a custom suspension shop about steps to lower the truck.
  • Have you actually placed the pin weight on the truck? Chris

X2, the subframe will also handle off pavement conditions better than longer springs or shackles and taller tires won't make enough difference. In fact, the subframe will add strength to the main frame.

  • I believe the only thing on your list that will raise it enough is to add rectangular tubing under the shackle mounts (ie sub frame). You have to be sure though that your trailer isn't too tall overall after they do that.

I take it you have already attached the trailer to the turck to get that 1"? If not your truck should squat at least a couple of inches when you place the load on it.
