Why does one use the "dry weight" when trying to figure what tow vehicle they need? The TH OP is looking at has a GVW of 16,500#..NO ONE tows empty or dry......now maybe he'll fill TH to max, maybe not, but if loaded to 15,000#, odd's are the pin weight would be 3000#.....If loaded to 16,000#, pin weight could be in the 3200# range...
I don't think I want to wait until "after the purchase" to go out and weigh the combo...Sure the D/A combo is more than enough to handle the load....but it's the SUSPENSION that will have to carry/ handle the load....What is GCWR of OP"s 2500....What is weight of truck and loaded 5er going to weigh, and what is his GCWR? What is his rear axle weight rating...
I hate to tell someone, just like the sleezy salesman, "sure your truck can tow it", and then OP finds out he's wearing out suspension, or possibly overloading his rear axle....
I'd want more answers before I purchased a 5er that the truck may have issues with.
I'd do a little more research with trucks rear axle weight rating....Weigh the truck ready to go camping, wife, kids, pets, whatever, then whatever the truck weighs, subtract that from it's GCWR to see how heavy your total combo would be with TH hooked up...Also take weight of "drive axle" and subtract that from your trucks rear axle weight rating..Difference will be how much pin weight you can put in the bed of your truck...IF you don't have a 5th. wheel hitch, add 200# for that on top of weight of truck...
I'd want to make sure I had all my ducks in a row before I took the salespersons word for it...after all, they DO want to sell you an rv.
