In my case they are young ladies who chat a little, but then they ask pretty directly if you'd like to consider a different vehicle. When they're not chatting they have their own desk. It must work for them often enough, it's been this way for several years.
I do have to admit I wait there for my oil changes mostly because they have a wonder local lady provide cookies (instead of donuts)
