2021 rockwood fifth wheel creaking

Hello.....
We have a 2021 rockwood ultralite fifth wheel we purchased new.
This is our second fifth wheel (kz durango being the first).
Our first fifth wheel was quiet when raised and lowered from the truck, as is every other one I have listened to.
Ours creaks like crazy. Does this much creaking seem normal?
Thx

  • While a little popping/cracking is normal, yours sounds excessive to me. It almost seems as though the cross shaft that turns to operate the landing legs is hitting on something. The landing gear motors also have a little movement when operating, and could cause a vibrating sound. Have you watched the mechanism at work, while someone operated the switch?

  • That sounds structural to me... like frame flexing against the body. Craig
  • Weird part is I did the measurments for the upper deck frame flex and it is within spec.....it doesnt sound it though
  • Ultra light? Sounds like to me the frame is flexing excessively! Better keep an eye on sealing all the exterior parts. You can get water intrusion very easily around mouldings and windows.
  • Wow, that is not good. It sounds like something is getting stretched like a vertical wood panel that wasn't fastened properly. I would try to isolate where the sound is coming from and start there.
  • I have empathy for you… seriously! One of my first 5ers was light and cheap… sometimes it’s part of the learning curve! My 98 Wildwood flexed so much, the aluminum siding in the bedroom area was coming off and the staples that held the inside paneling on, were laying on the floor. I traded it in, at a dealer, before it was 2 yo. I never bought cheap, light or entry level again. Craig
  • I would lube both the landing gear and the suspension. Either one could cause the creaking you are hearing. Don't assume the worst until you take care of the easy things.
