30 or 50 AMP surge protector

If we sometimes use 30 AMP and other times 50 AMP campsites, what surge protector do we need to get? We don't need to buy both a 30 and a 50 AMP do we?

  • I would go with an autoformer, which includes surge instead of just a surge device. Low voltage kills far more than high voltage surge.
  • You can always use a 50 amp EMS with 30 amp service, but you can't go the other way. I'd get a 50 amp EMS and call it good. I had 2 SurgeGuard and had both of them fail due to water intrusion. The new ones look different and may work better but I wouldn't trust them. I'd go with the EMS-PT50X.
  • I have a 50amp trailer and a 50 amp protector, when plugged into 30amp I get a fault.
It still works however(the power). Just has a fault light.
  • Is your rv 50amp get 50amp will work with 30 AMP campground service
If you're rv is 30 AMP get that
  • if your rv is set up for 50 amp power get a 50 amp surge protector. if you ue a portable one like me, just plug your surge protector into your 30 amp adapter cable.
