Possibly a bad connection inside the plug/receptacle.
Start with replacing the ends or get a new cable and adapter.
The receptacle is fine it's only at the adapter on the 30 amp plug side! All the signs point to pulling to much power.
............With 50 amp service you have 2 25 amp breakers on your master panel , you also have 2 heavy copper flat connectors on the 50 amp plug ! When you downsize , to a 30 amp , you've allocated ALL LOADS to one large flat connector , instead of 2 . The plastic housing of the 30 amp will heat UP along with the positive connector and then the resistance starts increasing , the voltage will be reduced because of the increasing resistance(due to heat) , which means the amperage will increase as the voltage decreases ! , jf
120/240V 50A split phase RV service has 2 hot legs, each capable of delivering up to 50 amps for a total ampacity of 100 amps. If you don't believe it, look in the main power distribution panel of a 50 amp RV or on the shore power pedestal - you'll see two linked 50 amp breakers, one for each 50 amp hot leg. Total power capacity of a 50 amp RV is 120VAC x 50 amps/leg x 2 legs = 12,000 watts, whereas the total power capacity of a 30 amp RV is 120VAC x 30 amps/leg x 1 leg = 3,600 watts.
