probably you are mixed up again Jim. It is something else you lose not common sense. common sense is built in for ever. Hope your little feelings aren't hurt from my comment. :W - NC_HaulerExplorer

I am thinking of
going from a 34.8 ft Everest which is 11.5k loaded to a Big Horn 3160 35.6 ft which will be 13.5 loaded. I know I will be over pin weight around 500lbs . The combined weight is within specs of truck. Just wanted to see if anyone else is carrying this weight on 2500HD diesel and how has it been.
Thanks Dennis
When you say the Big Horn, which will be loaded to 13,500#, is that a "guesstimate" or is it trucks GVW?
I towed an 04' Coachmen Somerset 3 slide with an 03' 2500HD extended cab/long bed/D/A 4X4 which had a GVWR of 9200#...5er had a GVW of 14,500#....loaded to 13,600#....I also had air bags on this truck to help level this load out....Truck towed it OK, considering I was doing my towing in the mountains of WV, TN, NC, SC and VA....but when I weighed, I found out I was 900# over the trucks GVWR, though NOT over the trucks RAWR....ended up purchasing an 05 1 ton dually, but that was back in 05....old tech for now a days..
I'd look to see what the 5er's GVW is.. When I was towing, I definitely "knew it was back there". Again, do the math and some common sense and go from there. - NC_HaulerExplorer

2003 Chevy 2500HD
2006 Triple E Topaz 301 RBXL 30 ft, 9-11000 lbs depends on load
Actually, that isn't very heavy for a 2500HD...Don't know if your 03' had a Duramax or was gas, but I had a n 01' 2500 with 8.1 that towed a 5er with GVW of 11,750 and it ran great, then went to an 03 2500 D/A towing same 5er and again, no big deal...5er isn't really that heavy. - NC_HaulerExplorerAll these years, all these threads, why is it that continually we see, "5er has a "dry" or empty weight of X"? Dry pin weight is X? It's not real world...It truely is a useless number when matching a tow vehicle to what one is towing....Though most WILL NOT fill their 5er to it's GVW, it is STILL surprising just how much one loads into their 5er without realizing it, unless they weigh it. First time I traded one 5er for another and transferred everything from the old 5er to the new 5er I was AMAZED at how much I was carrying. My 5er has a GVW of 16,950, it's empty weight is 14440..giving me 2,510# of cargo carrying capacity. I carry no water in the fresh water tanks, ( never have), black water tank, gray water tank, when I'm towing are all empty)...5er, last weighed was 16,050...with a pin weight of 3300#...
When I purchased my truck, I didn't go by "empty" or "dry" weight...I used my 5er's GVW, and took approx. 20% of that to get an idea of how much pin weight I might be dropping in the bed of my truck. Mine works out to a tad more than 20%.
BUT, more and more post, when people ask about a truck to tow their 5er with, seems 99% of them will address the "empty" or "dry" weight which is not very realistic. Just curious as to why most seem to do this any more...By the time you've added propane, clothes, pots, pans, dishes, outdoor chairs, blankets, sheets, dry goods and on and on....by addressing "dry weight", "empty weight" or "dry pin weight"....no loading of the unit has been factored in at all...and I didn't even say anything about carrying some water around..(also have hot water heater that may be carrying 6 to 12 gallon of water), it all adds up.....quickly
didn't mean to get off topic, but when asking questions about towing a 5er with a particular truck, it would be MUCH MORE PERTINENT for us to know the GVW of the 5er, and it would behoove the person asking the question, to also use that same information, it's just common sense. - rhagfoExplorer III

We pull a 2012 Sundance SD 300CK, dry weight is 9000lbs. Hitch weight is 1960. Behind that we pull an Aluma motorcycle trailer with a Honda Goldwing on the trailer that weights roughly 1500 lbs. We have as little as possible in the trailer the most added weight would be food. We have pulled around 10,000 miles with out any problems. Have considered adding airbags to the pickup, had them on the prior tow vehicle and it makes the ride so much nicer and the pickup sits more level.
You profile picture look good, truck looks level or very close, have you considered replacing the shocks on the TV with Bilstien's or Rancho's?? - gsgrapeExplorerWe pull a 2012 Sundance SD 300CK, dry weight is 9000lbs. We have towed our 30 cameo, purchased new in 2000, for over 100,000 miles, first with a '97' F-250 and now with our '06' F-250 PSD's. Fiver weighs 11,000 lbs. Both trucks were and are strictly stock.
I have a very similar setup with a 2012 Duramax w/6.6 Diesel Turbo. Cab is the extended version and a 6.5' bed. 5er weighs in at 11600 loaded. The rig tows great and I get around 14 MPG at 65-70 depending on head-winds. Truck gets 21 MPG cruising on he hwy. Going up long Hills and entering highways are NO PROBLEM for this beast. - NC_HaulerExplorer
