I'm not a farmer, and 4wd was $5000 extra when I bought my SuperDuty 2wd crew cab. That'll pay for 75 wrecker calls if I do get stuck. I've never been towed for being stuck.
If you lived in Florida where there's so much sand, I'd suggest 4wd. I also suggest going the extra drive if you live from Indianapolis or Columbus, Ohio north.
As a southerner, we seldom get snow. And I'll never have to pay $110 a base rate hour for a mechanic to do maintenance on transfer cases, front cv joints, electric hubs or an extra drive shaft.
