OP is just stating what has been a growing problem for years. Back when fiver manufacturers actually listed pin height on their brochures, the typical number was around 46-47 inches. FYI, small units with 13" tires had a number of 42" for 1/2 ton and mini trucks, but that is a different topic.
Anyway, the rise from pin to underside of the trailer is, and has been around 12" as delivered. So, 60" is just a few inches higher than older fivers. Truck heights have increased much more than that over the years. Meanwhile, trailer heights cannot increase and still maintain a 6ft+ bedroom height along with reasonable bridge clearance. Seems truck manufacturers really are not paying attention to the fifth wheel segment of the market.
