I do not do a pull test but do check the jaws on my Reese classic. I also have one of those Butch's Services bars that slides in behind the king pin.
You went ,and done it now, you know full well the only ones that don't have to do a pull test is the B&W crowd, with their FOOLPROOF hitch . :B
Well... I will say this.... I drove Big Trucks for over 35 years and was pounded in my head to perform a pull test early on... Never left without doing one... caught 1 potential issue when the hitch failed....
Did one with my Pullrite.... Will do one with my new B&W... It's branded in my memory.....
You SHOULD do what works for YOU. But I still Highly advise doing the VISUAL test as shown in pics above.
I keep a small AAA Maglight in my side door compartment, Once hooked up, while plugging in the electric, shine it around the jaws.... Been using that for many, many years
