5th Wheel, F-350, Wrangler and 16' Aluminum Boat

I guess I won't be happy until I can haul everything I own to the CG with me. :(

Getting ready for retirement in 2018. We plan on getting a 2018 F-350 4-door (will also be used to haul our truck camper) and a medium size 5th wheel. Most of the places we will use the 5th wheel are within 2-4 hours drive from home. We would also like to take our 2015 Jeep Wrangler and pull a 16' aluminum boat.

I'm just wondering where I'm going to park all that stuff at the CG? I assume I'm not the only one using a 5th wheel and also a fishing boat. I would like some help/suggestions from others in similar situations. Double towing the boat behind the 5th wheel is not an option for us.

Thanks for any help,
BradW
  • If, most of the time you head to the same general area, store either the 5er or the boat in that area so it's a short run to pick it up.
  • You sound like the perfect candidate for a port-a-boat.

Just to clarify, you are not talking about towing the Jeep and the boat behind the fiver right? You mean that the Jeep will be driven separately towing the boat. Right?

You may need to rent two spaces for you toys.

    Thanks!

  • We're full-timers in a 36' fifth wheel, F350 DRW CC LB, and have a Toyota Corolla (wife follows behind in the Toyota on travel days). At about one out of every five campgrounds/parks, we have to park one vehicle in overflow parking (which is the case at the Army resort where we are now). Most of the time, I can scoot the truck over to one side after unhitching and squeeze the Toyota in beside it. But with a Jeep AND a boat - I doubt it very seriously. Also, many parks and campgrounds have rules that limit the number of vehicles on a site.

  • There are 4 of us and we have 2 kayaks that we use for water purposes (I don't fish, but DH does) and the girls like to just take the kayaks out.

We have 2 inflatable Sea Eagle kayaks that we take with us in the 5'er, especially when we head to the beach or one of the TVA lakes. They work well, are very stable and take up just a little bit of room in our closet. They each have their own carry bag and weigh in a little less than 50 lbs.
  • We used to store our 24' boat at the lake and commute with our toy hauler. Our spot at the rv park had room for all the toys

I would inquire at the campground about overflow parking as suggested by Second Chance. Most campgrounds have a place for excess vehicles/boats.
  • Some campgrounds will allow a extra vehicle for a fee. Some prohibit more then 2 vehicles just depends on the campground. Some have extra parking. Only way to know is call ahead.
  • It really depends on the campground. Some of the campgrounds we go actually have a boat parking spot at the campsite, others have a parking lot at the boat ramp. It really just depends on the campground.

My favorite, has boat slips available, and just I just leave the boat in the water, and part a vehicle and trailer in overflow.
  • With my fishing boat, I tow it tandem, but you ruled that out. When we take our Malibu, we are in a similar situation that you are referring to, with truck, 5er, Yukon XL and 23' boat.

We almost exclusively camp those trips in either State Parks or Federal areas. Very few are large enough for me to keep everything in the campsite.

When they aren't I usually leave my truck in the parking lot (often in the boat ramp parking lot). If there still isn't enough room in the campsite for the Rv, boat and Yukon, the Yukon goes to the parking lot as well. I don't like to unload the watersports equipment from the boat, which means it needs to stay as near the campsite as possible.
