Agree 100% with you, but what I'm saying is that the numbers are available in the brochures, and affixed to the unit itself and they are almost alway's correct, including empty weights and GVW, (difference being cargo carrying capacity)....
Most won't be carrying a tape measure with them and most won't weigh their unit...and a lot of that can be attested to by having read this forum for years and years.
Suit yourself - I still say get a tape measure and measure your rig and then hit the CAT scales and weight it. GVWR means nothing if you have no idea what your actual weight is, and this is NOT the time to be confident with the brochure height of 12' 8" when your rig is actually 13' 3"! If I used your approach, I would be 1 air conditioner short and about $3,000 less rich.
Your preaching to a "dyed in the wool" Weight Police...You seem to either misunderstand what I posted or opted to take it out of context. I told you that I DID measure and weigh MY camper(s)...alway's have, that's why I stated I know the manufacturers specs on LENGTH ( THATS what OP was alluding to), were within 1 inch or so of what manufacturer stated they were. "I" have cat scale weight and papers to prove it...WE AGREE!!.
You REALLY NEED to re-read original post...it basically started out as comparing a number put on a camper by it's manufacturer and how that correlated, if at all to the units LENGTH.
How in the world you got into weights, tape measures cat scales and all that is beyond me, but it appears you really targeted me on it and I KNOW ALL the numbers and, like you, recommended everyone else know theirs.....so where am "I" wrong, or should "suit myself"?.....
You do bring up a good point, though again, irrelevant to the post on "how long...." and that is the height of one's 5er.( oh, and yeah, I've known that number since I purchased the unit in Oct. of 07')...and mine came with two AC's, (highest point on 5er") and the height the manufacturer gave was 13' 1", but in reality, it's 13'....but very good suggestion, everyone should know the height of their unit.
WHAT approach are you accusing me of?????? ORIGINAL POST WAS ABOUT LENGTH OF CAMPER AND NUMBERS/LETTERING....I told people how to find the inside and outside lengths of their 5er.....Did I write my post and you just decided to interpret however you felt??? AT least get it straight..don't accuse me of doing or recommending something that isn't safe AND that I DIDN"T DO....I never said ANYTHING about height...you just sorta "picked and chose" it as yet another addition to the OP.
My approach has worked for about 40 years now....I alway's measured, front to back, ground to highest point on my TT or 5er.. .I've used cat scales before rv'ers around my area were doing that...,BUT, I also looked at brochure LENGTH of unit, (inside and out), BUT still measured just to see if they knew what they were talking about...Thus the suggestion that one could look at manufacturers brochure to find units OUTSIDE measure, as well as normally, inside measure....nothing more, nothing less... the rest is a completely different post that you started...
