Just sold my 10 yr old 2500HD which was primarily used for towing our fivers. MY GVWR was 9200 lbs but same rear GAWR as you have. Anyway, my first fiver had a 1600 lb dry pin weight and pulled it for 7 yrs all over US and Canada. 2nd fiver had a 1900 lb dry pin weight. But my truck was not stock, it had a custom utility bed that weighed 400 lbs more than stock bed and a 45 gal TransferFlow replacement tank. I don't have the weight tickets since they went with the truck, and while it was over GVWR, it never exceeded rear GAWR.
Used a Jordan brake controller (no longer available) which provided balanced braking and as a result, the truck still had original brake pads with good thickness remaining.
Yes, my new truck is a 3500, it wasn't a mainstream optioned truck, sat on the lot for 6 months, so got a great deal. But I would have been just as happy with an equivalent deal on a 2500HD.
