I don't believe that hitch failed, or opened up. Even beat up like that one. As someone else noted, the pic of the latch and the pic of the old rusty head, don't match up. I'm reserving judgment for the time being on that. But not for a second do I believe the hitch was at fault. And, no offense to the OP, but everyone believes they hitched correctly. And in every case known to man, they didn't.
As for fanboys, that's pretty obvious when they instantly blame an X-brand hitch, in spite of the fact that it is always operator error. Unless it is their brand that "failed", and then suddenly it must have been operator error. You can smell that a mile away.
