This isn't true.
But what I think you are saying, is you are okay with loading your truck a little over the GVWR. I tend to agree with this. Others will throw a hissy fit when they see someone 50# over. You have to do what you are comfortable with. But don't kid yourself with the 80% thing.
What I won't do is exceed tire ratings. I don't even want to run at tire ratings. I want plenty of excess tire under me. I also won't exceed axle capacity, but I have no problem running right on the bubble.
