5TH Wheel tires

I have a 2010 Keystone Outback with tires problems. I can,t keep tires from comming apart and disintagrating. Factory tires lasted about 1 year and started growing bubbles on side walls. Changed to Discount Tires Carlisle ST225/75-R15 10 ply at 80 PSI. These tires lost the tread caps on 2 tires when only about 1 to 2 years old. Tires didn't blow out, just lost the caps on 2 tires within 40 miles. Had to buy offbrand tires to get home on a Sunday afternoon. Now less than year later one of these tires disintagrated. Tire was not hot, it just came apart??

I keep my tires inflated and check them before each trip. I drive 65 or under but still keep loosing tires.?? Any suggestions for a good tires to keep me on the road. It's hard to enjoy my RV when every trip I have tire problems.
  • Were the Carlisles the older tire, or the newer 'RH' tire? Just curious.

Regardless, it sounds like you might need to weigh the trailer (axle by axel, and then same on one side so that you get individual weights on each tire). You might be overloading them.
  • Not sure why you keep losing tires, but since you have 15" wheels, LTs are not an option. I would recommend Maxxis RE 22575R15. I would also get them balanced.

Edit- Meant LRE (Load range E)
  • How fast do you tow? All ST tires are speed rated to 65MPH.
    X2 on MAxxis
  • After much research and discussion the best tire available for a 15 inch wheel is :
    Goodyear Cargo G26
    size 225/70R15
    Load Range D
rating is 2470 pounds on an LT scale .
The LT scale is 10 to 30 % tougher than the ST scale
    speed rated for 106 mph
    Not made in Asia
That particular tire is just plain more tire than any ST tire in a 15 inch wheel .
If you are ready to make the change to a 16 inch wheel there are many LT tires to choose from that are better than the 15 inch availability .
    Tire Rack .
Order them Monday , receive them on Wednesday , install on Thursday .
    Other vendors have them
  • 16" tires are indeed a option. If you have 6 lug rims (likely) then it is real easy. Just buy 16" rims and LT tires. Sell your old ones on Craigs list to help defray to cost.
If you have 5 lug rims, you will need to swap the drums over to 6 lug ones. I did this on a previous TT. Drums are suprisingly affordable. Do it at bearing repack time as they come with new bearings and lug nuts. So it will be a cost/time savings there as well.
    Best thing I ever did.
  • Guess what causes those treads to come off?

    SPEED!

    OVER WEIGHT!

    Probably both.
