Some get lucky - some don't. It depends on the weight of the trailer, frame design and quality of construction, the terrain the trailer crosses and the resultant loads imposed on the trailer frame and other factors.
Most probably get lucky when you consider the number of adapters out there, but I agree it isn't an ideal solution which is why I recommended the Andersen Ultimate instead.
