Having gone from (2) Travel Trailers to (2) Motor Homes to (1) 5th wheel...there is NO going back!
The 5th wheel is soooo much more spacious, sitting in our Lazy Boy recliners looking out the large back window at the ocean view, having the electric fireplace going in the early morning to take the chill off, the island kitchen design that easily allows both myself and the DW to work around each other in the kitchen at the same time, the larger shower (I'm 6'-2" and 230 lbs)the large pass through storage area---etc. etc. etc...
The only down side (since we dry camp in the Sierra Mountains) was giving up the 4000 watt built in generator for the two Honda 2000 watt genies (which are way quieter than the Onan).
Since last April we spent 41 nights in the new 5th wheel and have enjoyed it so much more than when we had the MH and the Jeep Wrangler toad.
The MH got about 8 mpg at best-less when towing. Our Ford F350 diesel gets about 15 mpg when towing and all the way up to 20+ mpg just driving on the open road.
Did I take a financial hit when switching---absolutley!
Was it worth it? YES
Registration in Nevada for the jeep and MH ran over $1500 per year, compared to around $600 for the truck and 5th wheel--and insurance for a truck and 5th wheel is a fraction of the cost of the MH and jeep.
Lots to consider--and as for the steps, there are three to get into the 5th wheel, not a real problem there-and two to get up to the bedroom, which I actually use just a few time a day at the most.
Long post---but I heartly recommend looking at the Ford F350 and a 5th wheel set up.
Just my $.02 worth :)
