5th wheeler bumper rack

Does anyone have a design, idea or pictures of a way to use a cargo rack on the back of a Sierra 5th wheeler. So I learned the hard way and used a hitch mount on the bumper for the cargo rack. Yep that doesn't work at all. I know I need to connect to the frame of camper but not sure of the best route for a mount. Any ideas???

Thanks

Bare in mind how much more load will be stressing that bumper / hitch with every bump in the road. :h

If my welder says mine will support 300 lbs without an issue, I'd say "yes". As I said earlier, my bumper was replaced with a heavier tube (stinky hose will no longer fit) and the receiver welded to the bottom. Get an aluminum rack to save a little weight, too. You might also want to, somehow, secure each end to the bumper to keep it from rocking too much. Either that, or replace the bumper tube and weld on TWO receivers! :-)

  • My unit does not have a rear bumper.
You should be able to keep your bumper and have the hitch under it.

  • Thanks for the replies.
C.B. did you remove the original bumper and put this in it's place?
Also anyone with pictures please post or send to me at tjoff1929@cox.net

    Thanks

What your looking for is a Buyers Products Company universal receiver hitch #1801125. I know they are available thru Tractor Supply Stores.

It can be welded or bolted on. I chose to bolt mine on.

  • The ones I know of that work well have 2 receivers welded on.

My brother also had his bumper and brackets replaced with a much heavier one, then a receiver for the bike rack was welded to the new bumper and frame.

    Sorry, don't have pictures.

I replaced the whole bumper with a heavier tube and added a receiver for a bike rack. Welder said 300 lbs would be no problem if I wanted to use a cargo rack.

  • Are you any good at welding? If not then you are better off to take it to the welding shop and get it professionaly done. I did mine and if need be I could find some pics....but all trailers are a bit different.
