6 lug wheel center caps.

Got a question. I have the standard 15" white spoke trailer wheels. They came with a black center cap that covers the lug nuts and the bearing buddys. I keep losing those center caps. This last time I tried using silicone on the lug nuts to glue the center caps on. This worked for most all of last year but I have now lost three so far this year. They are getting expensive to replace. Would anybody know why this might be happening? Thanks, John

Shadows4, are you sure you have BearingBuddies and not EZLube axles? A lot of people confuse them.

Confusion is my middle name LOL

  • Are you just losing the cap for the bearing buddy? Or the whole thing?
Unless this is a boat trailer that gets submerged you may not want to use the buddies anyway so I recommend a cover without the little access. If you must use the buddy just remove the whole thing.

I eventually moved to aluminum wheels when one of my steelys cracked. Chrome lug nuts and just a center cap that does not go on the lugs. No buddies on mine so no access needed.
  • Do you really need or want those?

First time I had the wheels off our fiver for service, I removed those covers and stuck them in a storage shed. They add a marginal appearance factor, which isn't worth the hassle. No one would even notice really. Ours are aluminum wheels and a different style, but same in practice.

I kept them as the next owner someday might want them. Probably should just toss them out if I ever dig them out again.
  • Thanks for the responses. Tires are balanced and when I put the center caps on I use a rubber hammer to "pop" them on. I am at a loss. At this point I have removed the ones that were still on. As far as my lug nuts, they are just like any other ones as far as I know. And the center caps are made of black plastic. Thanks again for the responses.
  • Mine are plastic, but chrome finished. I have never had one come loose. In fact, it is hard to pull them off, due to being slippery. When installing, mine seem to not quite fit, needing a bump to pop them on. If yours just slip on/off easily, you might try a different brand.

I suppose it is possible, that your lug nuts are not the right design for using those caps.
