8" lift

Hello All,

I am new not only on the forum but also to RV world. I want to send appreciate in advance for all assistance and apologize for any incorrect application of terminology.

I own a 2015 RAM 3500. It has an 8" lift. I am seeking to buy a fifth wheel. This presents obvious challenges in height differences. I have seen some fifth dolly wheel conversion but all information I have seen is dated(2005 - 2010ish). I was hoping someone may be able to help with some solutions...

I know the first thing people are going to state is just buy a travel trailer. This is 1 solution but haven't seen a TT that I like. Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you
Mike

  • I think you are looking for something like this Automated Safety Hitch,
but you'll have to contact the manufacturer as it attaches to your truck in 3 places! And the pictures are of a stock hight bumper.
  • I figured I would get the "take the lift off/dont get a lift/get a regular truck...etc"

None of these are applicable. I have seen items like a tow dolly and wanted to see if anyone had any experience with these. I dont want to lift the trailer as I dont like raising thee center of gravity. Has anyone seen the towall dolly?

  • There's no reason you can't pull a fifth wheel with a lifted truck. It's just that no one makes one like that, except for something custom.

Most lifts ruin the carrying capacity of pickups too, something the lift makers don't want to tell you. They tell you how nice their lift rides. They don't tell you what your GVWR will become.
  • Welcome to the Forum....
I agree with the above posters.
If you are talking about something like this.....good for off road application, not good at all for towing a 5th wheel.

It's hard to put back in when you get to the off road park.

this is one situation that a tag along trailer works better.

  • Make it a flatbed. Lift your trailer alot. Lower your truck? I like lifted trucks for some things, but they are not very fun to tow with.
