My GF and I looked at toy haulers because we haul a lot of stuff. The toys are telescopes and other equipment, not vehicles or boats. We decided not to get a toy hauler when we realized how much of the living space is the garage.

I know this is not an answer to your question, but it was a huge factor for us. When we sat down in the non toy hauler, we were so comfortable, we never looked back.

This happened at an RV show where we had the chance to check out lots of rigs.

Depends on your budget, there are some $200K++ toyhaulers out there and you can have one custom made so.....

Quality is subjective and varies. Reality is an RV build on Monday might be great, one built on Friday might have major problems. A good dealer and warranty is very important. Need to use the RV some before you got full time so you can get the bugs out.

You need to look into the warranty coverage both manufacturers and if you buy an extended warranty to make sure they will cover your full time living. Some manufacturers will not cover at all if you full time in you RV. That's a huge potential issue. I do believe that Grand Design RV doesn't play that game, but that may have changed. You should verify it and see it in writing, don't listen to a sales persons word.

We want a really good quality 5th wheel toy hauler to live in full time. We are somewhat flexible on floor plan and want a separate garage from the living space.

If it were me I'd want the best quality I could find and afford. Most coaches specifically state, "not for full time living" and warranty is void if used for full time, however that doesn't mean too much to me as 99% of them are built like ****. I know a lot state Grand Design is a cut above but since FR bought them I'm not so sure.

There's also some custom builders out there that build some very nice high end fifth wheels, don't have names.

Also, since you're looking at toyhaulers, do you want a separate garage which sacrifices real living area, or would you want something that is part of your living area after the toys are out? What toys are you hauling? How much traveling vs staying in one spot will you be doing?

Only you can answer that question as only you know what type of full time rving you will be doing. For example: will you need heated tanks and underbelly based on where you will be living? Will you be boondocking and thus need larger fresh water tanks and/or holding tanks? How large of a rig can you afford and will your truck pull it (buy the rig first and then get the right sized truck). We went thru this same process about 5 years ago.

We are looking at that, but was wondering if one manufacture was better than the other for Full Timing?

One that has a floor plan that fits your lifestyle and has a lot of storage.
