I had the same problem last summer. I used a temp gun to make sure when it was running I had at least a 20 degree difference between outside air and what was supposed to be cooled air. It was not, took it in to the RV shop, now I have a new air conditioner. It was short cycling just as you are saying. They said that it was low on freon. Dometic approved the new air under warranty. Took about 2 hours total.
