AC Unit

Does anyone recommend installing a second AC unit for a 27.5 fifth wheel and if so what size. I have a Jayco Eagle HT. It just takes so long to cool off. Thanks
  • First, do you have 30 or 50 amp in the trailer? Next, what size is the A/C in the trailer?

From this, determine if adding a 2nd unit is even doable. you may want to just up-size your current A/C.

With a 30 amp RV, you will need to see the amps pulled from the current A/C and see how many amps you can add for a 2nd A/C. With a second A/C you may need to shut down the microwave to run both A/C units.

  • Personally I would prefer that the second unit be smaller. Bigger is not always the best. A smaller unit running longer removes more moisture from the air and therefore "cools" better. For the bedroom area, a 9K would be my choice.
  • My main AC quit cooling during my last trip. It was good to have the second AC as backup.
  • I just added a second AC to ours. It's a bigger trailer, but it depends on how hot it is when camping. Even in Ohio, temperatures in the upper eighties made it so our single 15k unit would not cool it. I added a 13.5k for the second, and it seems to be working fine. Some have said they added a second 15k. I would think your smaller trailer wouldn't need anything bigger than a 13.5k.

An added bonus I noticed, if it's not too hot, we can run the bedroom AC and not the main, and it's much quieter in the living area.
